Leading It Off

• The Terps welcome Princeton to Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium for a four-game series beginning Friday at 4 p.m. This is Maryland's final non-conference weekend series of the season. Maryland begins ACC play next weekend at Virginia.

• The Terps have won five games in a row following a four-game sweep of Oakland last weekend at home and a 10-3 defeat of James Madison in Harrisonburg on Wednesday. During this five-game stretch, the Terps hit .325 with a .464 slugging percentage and scored 45 runs with 20 extra base hits.

• In four of the past five games, Maryland has benefited from one explosive inning and scored at least four runs during that inning. Against James Madison on Wednesday, the Terps scored seven in the fifth inning marking the second time Maryland has scored seven runs in the fifth this season (vs. Oakland, 2/22/13, Game 1).

• Blake Schmit led off the second inning on Wednesday at James Madison with his first career home run as a Terrapin. It marked Maryland's first home run of the season. Schmit is currently in the midst of a season and team-high seven game hitting streak.

• Maryland stole 26 bases over four games against Oakland last weekend including a program-record 11 in game one of Friday's doubleheader breaking the Terrapins' previous best of 10 stolen bases set against UMBC on April 14, 2010.

• Charlie White has been the focal point of Maryland's running game so far this season. White has an ACC-best 11 stolen bases heading into the weekend. He stole four in game one of Friday's doubleheader against Oakland becoming the first player to do that since 1998 (Larry Long vs. Howard 4/15/98).

• Through eight games, White leads the team in hitting (.462), slugging percentage (.577), OBP (.600), hits (12) and stolen bases (11). Jordan Hagel and LaMonte Wade are tied for the team lead in RBI with six. Matt Bosse has a team-high four doubles and is tied with Wade for team lead in extra base hits (4).

Scouting the Tigers

• This weekend will serve as the season opener for Princeton. The Tigers went 20-19 in 2012 finishing second in the Lou Gehrig Division in the Ivy League behind league-champion Cornell. The Tigers return six positional players and three starting pitchers from a year ago.

• Reigning Ivy League Pitcher of the Year and All-Ivy First Team selection Zak Hermans is expected to take the mound in game one for the Tigers. Hermans posted a 6-2 record with a 3.00 ERA. He hurled 60 strikeouts over 63.0 innings, both team-highs.

• The Tigers lost two of their top-four hitters from a year ago, but return All-Ivy First team member Alec Keller. Keller hit .346 with 18 RBI in 2012.

Maryland is on the road next week. The Terps head to Liberty to take on the Flames on Wednesday, March 6 at 3 p.m., and open conference play at Virginia starting on Friday, March 8.
