GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Freshman Maddie Martin of the Maryland softball team was named ACC Pitcher of the Week Tuesday for the first time in her career.
The rookie pitched four complete games to help Maryland (11-16) go 5-2 last week. She faced 109 batters, giving up just four earned runs and striking out 23 hitters.
Martin picked up the win against Hampton and threw a seven inning shutout against Valparaiso. Against Oklahoma State, the freshman threw 6.0 innings without giving up an earned run.
The native of Edmond, Okla., limited opposing hitters to a .223 batting average and finished the week with an earned run average of 1.40. It is her first ACC weekly honor.
Next, the Terrapins will return home to open ACC play vs. Virginia (11-12, 1-2 ACC) this weekend. The Terps and the Cavaliers will play a doubleheader on March 23 at 1 p.m. and a single game at 1 p.m. on March 24. Admission and parking are both free.
