COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Following Maryland baseball's game against Wake Forest on Saturday, March 23, several Terrapin players shaved their heads in support of the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which benefits kids battling cancer.
Since mid-February, the team has actively been fundraising money for the Vs. Cancer Foundation and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The head shaving event served as an additional show of support for the cause.
To date, the Terrapin baseball team has raised $7,643, which is $2,643 dollars more than its goal of $5,000. Forty-one teams are raising funds for the cause with Maryland's total ranking as the third-highest dollar total.
"This is an important cause," said head coach John Szefc. "Every single person has been affected by this disease in one way or another. [Director of Baseball Operations] Matt Swopedid a good job of spear heading this and our guys have responded well to it. This is a great cause because it affects so many people. Our guys were very unselfish and worked really hard to raise the money to not only meet our goal, but exceed it."

The Vs. Cancer Foundation is dedicated to saving kids' lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts.
