Maryland plays host to Rider on Wednesday in a midweek contest at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium at 4 p.m.
The Terps are looking to improve upon their 12-5 home record and 11-4 non-conference record.
Maryland (15-12, 4-8 ACC) enters the contest ranked fifth in the ACC in pitching with a 3.60 ERA and will turn to RHP Jake Stinnett to shut down the Broncs. Stinnett will be making his third-career start on Wednesday, but his first in a midweek game.
Stinnett, who began the season as the team's closer, made his first career start against Florida State on March 17. The junior pitched three innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out one. In his next appearance against Wake Forest, Stinnett went 1-2/3 innings surrendering six runs on two hits with three strikeouts.
Out of the bullpen this season, Stinnett pitched 8-2/3 innings allowing only three earned runs on six hits and seven strikeouts.
The Terps are scheduled to be matched against RHP Jerry Mulderig. Mulderig is 2-1 for the Broncs this season with a 2.57 ERA in four appearances with two starts.
Over the last 10 games, Blake Schmit had a 10-game hitting streak to begin the year.
Overall, the Terps are ranked fifth in the ACC in batting with a .292 average and are led by Kevin Martir, who is hitting .351 and ranks 14th in the conference in average. Maryland has hit the third-most doubles in the league (63) with LaMonte Wade's nine leading the way.
Scouting the Broncs
With a game at Seton Hall on Tuesday, Rider stands at 13-10 and 2-1 in the MAAC. The Broncs opened conference play by taking 2 of 3 against Fairfield at home over the weekend.
Offensively, Rider is second in the MAAC in hitting (.274) and scoring (5.3 runs per game), and has stolen 41 bases, also good for second in the conference behind Canisius' 63. Of the Broncs' 198 hits this season, only 38 have gone for extra bases.
Projected Wednesday starter Mulderig, leads the team in hitting (.347) and OBP (.472), and is second in slugging (.403).
As a pitching staff, Rider leads the MAAC with a 3.40 ERA and is allowing an average of 8.11 hits per nine innings. Opponents are hitting .242 against the Broncs as a team.
