Maryland Off To Best Start In 21 Years
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Keith Booth continued his hot play with 24
points to lead undefeated Maryland to a 77-63 victory over Georgia Tech
in its ACC opener at Cole Field House Thursday night.
Booth, a senior All-American candidate who is coming off of an MVP
performance in the Franklin National Bank Classic earlier this week, hit
on 8-of-16 field goals and 8-of-10 free throws.
Laron Profit added 18 points for the Terrapins (7-0). Maryland jumped
out to an 18-2 lead and had a 15-point lead at halftime.
Matt Harpring had 21 points for Georgia Tech (4-2), which trailed by 22
points midway through the second half.
Maryland is off to its best start since the 1975-76 season when it won
its first 11 en route to a 22-6 record.
The Terps were outrebounded, 31-27, and took 11 fewer shots from the
floor than Georgia Tech. But Maryland connected on 26-of-48 shots (.542
percent) to the Yellow Jackets' 23-of-59 (.390).
Profit sparked Maryland's hot shooting by hitting 7-of-8 from the floor.
Maryland does not play again until Saturday, Dec. 21, when it meets
American.
