On Baxter: A team leader who will take the reigns and move into the Terps' No. 1 butterfly position...has an outstanding work ethic...has improved each season in the program.
As a Junior (2001-02): Scored points at the ACC Championships in the 100-yard fly (50.00) with a 13th place finish...also placed 19th in the 200-yard fly (1:52.28), just missing a best time...came in third in the 200-yard fly (1:57.10) vs. Florida State and Duke (1:57.49)...fourth against Georgia Tech in the 200-fly (1:56.36)...qualified for the U.S. Open Championships, placing second in the 100-yard fly (50.81) at the Terrapin Cup Invitational...also placed third in the 200-yard fly (1:55.46) at the same meet...was fifth against North Carolina in the 100-yard fly (52.40).
As a Sophomore (2000-01): Placed ninth in the 100-fly with a career-best time of 49.43 at the ACC Championships ... almost scored in the 200-fly with a 17th-place finish (1:53.27) at the conference meet ... third in the 100-fly (53.52) against Howard and Villanova ... third against NC State in the 200-fly (1:55.82) ... placed third in the 200-fly (1:56.64) at UMBC ... finished third at home in the George Washington meet in the 100-fly (52.97) ... third at Duke in the 100-fly (53.85).
As a Freshman (1999-00): Was in the top three all season long in the 200-yard butterfly for the Terps … finished 18th at the ACC Championships in the 200-yard butterfly with a career best time of 1:51.60 … placed third versus George Washington in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:13.66 … named to the ACC Honor Roll.
Before Maryland: A 1998-99 all-state pick from North Carolina, Baxter was the AAA state champion in the 200-yard freestyle…a two-time all-conference selection in 1998 and 1999, he was the 1999 Charlotte Observer Male Swimmer of the Year…Baxter was team captain in 1998 and holds school records in five events (the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, as well as the 200-yard medley relay and the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays).
Personal: Born on Jan. 31, 1981… parents are John and Carol Baxter… majoring in history.
