Anton Slobounov is in his second season as the assistant coach with the diving program at the University of Maryland.
"I was fortunate to learn the fundamentals of diving from my father, Sam Slobounov, who is a former Head Diving Coach for the Russian Olympic team," commented Slobounov. "I am proud to continue his legacy as a diving coach."
Slobounov is a 2007 graduate of the University of California, Irvine, where he majored in Drama and also received a full diving scholarship.
As an undergraduate, Slobounov won six career Big West diving titles, more than any other diver in Big West history. Those titles include 2004-05 1-meter diving, 3-meter diving Big West Conference, 2003-04 1-meter diving, 3-meter diving Big West Conference and 2002-03 1-meter diving, 3-meter diving Big West Conference.
Slobounov is also a two-time award winning Most Valuable Diver, a two-time Big West Athlete of the Week and was named the Most Inspirational Diver.
Slobounov served as the Assistant Clinic Coach at the Summer League Diving Clinic in College Park during the month of June, where he explained fundamentals of diving to high school and club coaches, conducted physical assessment, preparation, and strength training methods specifically designed for diving and also held warm ups, practice, and strength training programs.
Slobounov also served as the Spring Board Diving Instructor of the Crown Valley Dive Club in Crown Valley, Calif. from 2004 until his position at Maryland.
Slobounov is also fluent is Russian, and enjoys painting and visiting fine art galleries and museums.
