On Roddy: Will be a strong competitor in the diving events...looking to build on success at the ACC Championships where he scored in both events.
As a Junior (2001-02): Repeated his performance at the ACC Championships placing 12th on the 3-meter board (380.05) and 13th on the 1-meter board (213.15)...placed third at NC State on both the 1-meter board (243.23) and the 3-meter board (224.85)...won the 3-meter board (258.30) and placed second on the 1-meter (244.54) vs. Duke...finished third again on both the 1-meter board (230.10) and the 3-meter board (203.47) against Georgia Tech...posted a season high score at the Terrapin Cup Invitational on the 3-meter board (438.60), placing third.
As a Sophomore (2000-01): Scored in both diving events at the ACC Championships ... placed 12th on the 3-meter board (395.70) and 13th on the 1-meter board (201.90) ... the second time in his career he scored in both events at the conference championships ... won the 3-meter diving event (233.85) and finished second on the 1-meter board (224.92) vs. Howard and Villanova ... second on the 1-meter board (243.82) against Johns Hopkins ... won the 1-meter dive (176.45) at UMBC ... won the 3-meter event at Duke.
As a Freshman (1999-00): Came on strong in his first season at Maryland … finished 9th in the 1-meter dive at the 2000 ACC Championships … also scored in the 3-meter dive as he placed 11th … first versus Johns Hopkins and UMBC in the 1- and 3-meter dive … second in the 1- and 3-meter dive at NC State … won the 3-meter dive against George Washington and second in the 1-meter dive … first in the 1-meter dive against Virginia and second in the 3-meter dive.
Before Maryland: A local product from Montgomery County High School, Roddy was the Montgomery County champion in 1999 and was named the Most Valuable Diver for the 1997-98 and 1998-99 years for his team … decided to try out for the diving team because he was bored ... he captained his team in 1999 and had the best score in a dual meet (169-four dives), in his division (268-six dives), in Montgomery County (353-nine dives) and at the Metro Championships (377- 11 dives) … he also swam in high school.
Personal: Born on July 27, 1981 … parents are Jerry and Janet Roddy … majoring in electrical engineering… his cousin Brendan Roddy swims for Salisbury State.
