Francis Boyle Bio

On Boyle: With the loss of Michael Malchak to graduation, Boyle is poised to be a leader in the distance events.

As a Sophomore (2001-02): Placed 19th in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:04.54) at the ACC Championships...finished third in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:47.23) and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.21) and fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:49.57) against Florida State...swam a season best time placing second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:44.35) against Duke...finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.07) against Virginia Tech...finished third in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:06.04) and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.03) at the Terrapin Cup Invitational.

As a Freshman (2000-01): Placed 15th in the 1650-free (15:45.66) and 16th in the 500-free (4:38.78) at the ACC Championships ... placed first in the 1000-free (9:47.85) and third in the 500-free (4:48.01) vs. Howard and Villanova ... second in the 1000-free (9:47.19) at UMBC ... third-place finish in the 1000-free (9:55.86) against George Washington ... second-place finisher at Duke in the 1000-free (10:05.35) ... also was third in the 500-free (4:48.76) against the Blue Devils.

Before Maryland: 1999 USA Swimming Scholastic All-America … twice named to the all-state team in the 500-yard freestyle … named to the South Jersey first team his junior and senior years … swam in the finals of the 1000 and 1650-yard freestyle events at the Junior Nationals … member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Born May 19, 1982 … son of Pat and Frank Boyle … his father, Frank, ran track at Villanova from 1972-76 … majoring in economics.
