As a Junior (2003-04): Finished seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.46) and fifth in the 400-yard medley relay at N.C. As a Freshman (2001-02): Scored by placing 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.50) at the ACC Championships, equaling his career best time in prelims...also placed 17th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.17)...had an outstanding Terrapin Cup Invitational finishing first in the 100 yard breaststroke (57.51), just mising a career best and third in the 200 yard IM (1:55.40)...finished third against NC State in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.53)...came in fourth against Duke in the 200-yard IM (2:00.93).
Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner at Fairport High School ... his team went a combined 39-1 over his four years ... garnered All-America honors in each of his four seasons ... Monroe County swimmer of the year as a senior ... won the 100-breast at the New York state meet in his junior and senior campaigns ... four-year first-team all-county performer ... won or shared in five New York titles over his prep career.
