As a Freshman (2005-06): Opened his collegiate career by setting a personal record in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming a 10:01.76 to finish 10th in the ACC quad meet against Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Florida State...also finished eighth in the 100 free at the ACC quad meet (47.52)...part of the second-place 400 free relay team at the ACC quad meet (3:06.85)...won the 200 free against Johns Hopkins and Howard for his first collegiate victory (1:44.33), and also placed third in the 500 free (4:45.47)...part of the victorious 400 free relay team against JHU and Howard (3:09.76)...took second in the 500 free against Duke (4:47.40)...part of the fourth-place 400 free relay team (3:10.27) and seventh-place 200 free relay team (1:25.74) at the Terrapin Cup Invitational...set a personal record in the 1650 free at Terp Cup, swimming a 16:57.23...took ninth in the 200 free (1:43.60), 12th in the 100 free (47.35), and 13th in the 500 free (4:43.95)...part of the second-place 200 free relay team against Pittsburgh and Villanova (1:25.69)...finished fourth in the 500 free (4:51.61) and the 200 free (1:46.65) against Pitt and Villanova ...took fifth in the 200 free (1:44.37) and fourth in the 100 free (47.54) against NC State...part of the victorious 200 free relay team against the Wolfpack (1:24.21)...set a personal record in the 50 free against North Carolina, swimming a 21.67 to finish sixth...part of the first-place 200 free relay team against UNC (1:23.54)...finished fourth in the 200 free against Virginia (1:42.76)...part of the victorious 400 free relay team against Virginia (3:03.83)...lead off the seventh-place 800 free relay team at the ACC Championships (6:40.01)...anchored the third-place 400 free relay team at ACCs (2:58,83)...set a personal record in the 100 free at ACCs (46.12), where he finished 27th...finished 13th overall in the 200 free (1:39.81) and 24th overall in the 500 free (4:35.52) at the ACC Championships.
Before Maryland: Lettered in swimming for four years at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and served as captain his junior and senior years...PIAA State record holder in the 200 free...PIAA State Champion in the 50 and 200 free in 2004...named "Swimmer of the Meet" his junior and senior seasons at the state champrionships.
Personal: Matthew Golebiewski...son of Terry and Rick Golebiewski...has three brothers, Rick (25), swam for Lehigh University from 1998-2002, Brian (23), swam for Lehigh University from 2000-2004, and Kevin is a member of the West Chester University team...lists winning the 200 free and setting the state record at the PIAA State Championships as his biggest athletic thrill...nickname is G.O.A.T...also recruited by Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Florida...a letters and sciences major.
