On Peterson: Has been one of the top three point scorers since arriving at Maryland … placed 81st in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2000 U.S. Olympic trials in a time of 57.25 … one of the top sprinters in the ACC … strong swimmer who loves to swim the relay events …one of the top returners in the 100-yard butterfly and sprint events along with Drew Childs.
1999-00 Season: Was among the top three scorers for the Terps … finished 6th in the 50-yard freestyle (20.51) and 100-yard freestyle (45.17) at the 2000 ACC Championships … also placed 7th in the 100-yard butterfly at the conference championships in a time of 49.06 … was part of four relay teams that broke four school records at the 2000 ACC championships … holds the school record in the 100-yard butterfly (48.45) … won 14 races during the regular season in either relays or individual events.
1998-99 Season: One of the top three scorers for the Terps, Peterson finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (49.06) and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (45.33) at the 1999 ACC Championships … teamed up with Drew Childs, Jason Ward and Matt Childs to post school records in the 200- and 400-yard medley relays at the conference championships … also earned points for the Terps in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays at ACC's … placed first five times during the regular season for the Terps in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle … also finished in the top spot four times in the 100-yard butterfly for the Terps during the regular season … just missed scoring team points in the 50-yard freestyle at ACC's with his time of 20.68, which was good enough for 17th.
1997-98 Season: Led the men's team in scoring with 257.05 points … posted the top men's team times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle (20.40 and 45.10 respectively) and the 100-yard butterfly (48.45) … placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.40), seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (45.10) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (48.45) at the ACC Championships … swam on the 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams, both of which set school records at the ACC Championships (1:30.78 and 3:19.35) and placed fifth and third respectively … also swam on the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams which placed fifth and fourth respectively (1:22.39 and 3:02.61) at the ACC Championships.
Before Maryland: The Virginia state champion in the 50-yard freestyle (21.42), 100-yard freestyle (46.54), 200-yard freestyle (1:43.92) and the 100-yard butterfly (51.09) his senior year … the All-Area Swimmer of the Year his junior and senior years.
