Josh Garner Bio

Josh Garner joins the University of Maryland swimming and diving program for his first season as an assistant coach for the Terps.

Garner previously served as an assistant coach at UMBC for the Retriever swim program. While at UMBC, he worked primarily with the distance swimmers and IMers, coaching multiple conference champions and top three finishers. He also headed up all the recruiting activities, bringing in the two largest and most productive classes in school history.

During his tenure at UMBC, he also coached for the Retriever Aquatic Club in Baltimore, developing numerous age groupers who were Maryland state champions, National Age Group Recognition Swimmers and Sectional qualifiers.

Prior to joining UMBC's coaching staff, Garner was a graduate assistant at the University of Virginia while he pursued a Master's Degree in sport psychology. While there, he worked with all training groups, as well as doing video analysis and sport psychology education for the team.

Garner graduated from Connecticut College with honors in psychology.
