On Ian: Transferred from West Virginia adding phenomenal quickness to the Terps lineup ... is an extremely gifted athlete that brings with him a great knowledge of the game ... look for Bliss in the top half of the singles and doubles lineup.
Fall 2004: Went 2-2 in the no. 1 flight at the Brown Invitational...won two matches in the Regional Tournament...won three doubles matches with Troy Demers
Spring 2004: Recorded a team high 11 victories...won six of his first seven matches to start the season...ended the season winning five of his last six including a singles win in the ACC tournament...teamed with Scott Peters to win five doubles matches.
Fall 2003: Shone in doubles for the Terps ... along with doubles partner Scott Peters, the duo went on to close out the fall season with the capture of the Flight A singles title at the Penn Classic .... their record stands at 5-1 for the fall season ... also recorded his first singles win as a Terp at the Penn Classic.
Before Maryland: Attended Plainview Old Bethpage ... was the Naisau county champion in 2001 ... that same year he was ranked No. 1 in the state ... during his four years at Plainview he was named All-Conference, All-County, and All-State ... attended Bowling Green his freshman year ... he was named the most valuable freshman in the MAC conference ... transferred to West Virginia after Bowling Green's men's tennis program was eliminated ... Bliss became a Terrapin after the Mountaineers mimicked the Falcons and disbanded their varsity tennis team as well.
Personal: Born Ian Bliss ... parents are Lori and Calvin Bliss ... has one brother: Mitchell (18) ... things he is interested other than tennis is spending time with his friends and collecting cigars ... his favorite athlete is Leyton Hewitt because of his level of competitiveness ... the people he admires most are his parents because of their continual support, and his grandfather for introducing him to tennis ... majoring in Economics.
