Box Score

SAN JUAN, P.R. –  Redshirt senior Laurin Mincy scored 17 of her 23 points in the second half to lead the eighth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team to an 80-64 win over No. 23 James Madison Friday afternoon in the San Juan Shootout  at the Mario Morales Coliseum in Puerto Rico.

Mincy has scored in double figures in four straight games for Maryland (6-0). Sophomore Lexie Brown added 13 points and has hit double digits in every game this season. Sophomore Brionna Jones added 10 points and redshirt junior Brene Moseley had nine off the bench.

“I thought we came out aggressive from the tip,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought our defense and rebounding really set the tone. Laurin Mincy was spectacular and she really led the way, putting the team on her back, especially in the second half. She's extremely difficult to guard.”

After James Madison (4-1) scored the first bucket of the game, Maryland went on an 11-2 run to take a seven-point lead at 11-4 with 14:54 left in the first half. The Dukes' Precious Hall hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Terps' lead to 11-10 at 13:20, then Maryland responded with a 10-0 run to go up 20-10 with 9:58 left in the first.

The Terrapins extended their lead with an 18-5 run to push it to a 31-15 advantage just over five minutes left in the half. Maryland led 40-27 at the break.

Maryland is ranked No. 8 in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll and No. 10 in the latest Associated Press poll.
