COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland junior forward Jake Layman earned co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Layman shares this week's honor with sophomore forward Troy Williams of Indiana.
Layman, who tied his season-high in points (21) and posted a career-best in rebounds (11), led No. 17 Maryland (11-1) to a 73-64 win at Oklahoma State Sunday. A junior from Wrentham, Mass., Layman connected on 7-of-12 field goal attempts, made 3-of-5 3-point attempts and recorded his first double-double of the season. Layman has also scored in double-figures in all 12 games for the Terps this season.
Entering Sunday's showdown in Stillwater, Oklahoma State had lost just four times in 197 nonconference home games dating back to 1987. In addition, the Cowboys were limiting teams to 35 percent from the field, but Maryland, behind Layman, connected on 45 percent of its field goal attempts from the field and an impressive 55 percent in the second half
Layman is the second Maryland player to garner co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors, joining freshman guard Melo Trimble, who earned that distinction on Dec. 1.
Maryland will host Oakland on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 5:00 p.m. at XFINITY Center.
