KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Maryland softball team closed play at the Citrus Classic Sunday with a 16-0 defeat to No. 1 Florida.
The Terrapins return to action on Wednesday at the Maryland Softball Stadium with a double-header against Delaware State at 5 and 7 p.m.
The undefeated Gators jumped on Maryland from the outset, when Bailey Castro knocked a three-run home run to left field in the first inning. The frame continued as Florida tacked on three more runs to take a 6-0 advantage.
Florida scored three more runs in the second inning, with Kathlyn Media doing much of the damage courtesy of a two-run double to center field.
After the Terps got through the third inning unscathed, the Gators sealed the game with a seven-run fourth inning. Florida used three hits and a number of walks in the frame to open the 16-0 lead and secure the victory.
