PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Shade Pratt, a senior on the 2014 University of Maryland women's soccer team, was drafted in the third round of the 2015 National Women's Soccer League draft by Sky Blue FC Friday in Philadelphia.
“We are so happy and excited for Shade,” said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. “She's such a competitor and has worked very hard at developing her game that it's great to see she will have the opportunity to play at a professional level. Sky Blue is getting a fantastic lockdown defender with some very good attacking qualities coming out of a wide position. We know she's going to do great.”
Pratt, a native of Rosemount, Minn., is an extremely versatile player who played on the back line, in the midfield and up top during her tenure in College Park.
As a senior in 2014 she made the move to forward and led the Terps in goals, shots and shots on goal and tied for the team lead in points. During her junior and sophomore seasons, Pratt started 30 matches as a wide back and center back, helping lead the Terps to 10 shutouts.
Pratt will join Terp alums Hayley Brock (Chicago Red Stars), Molly Dreska (FC Kansas City), Ashley Grove (Boston Breakers) and Jasmyne Spencer (Western NY Flash), who were on 2014 NWSL rosters, in the league, which enters its third season this spring with nine teams.
