Terps Receive Highest Preseason Ranking in History

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  – Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, the Maryland baseball team received its highest all-time preseason ranking from D1Baseball.com, slotting in at No. 14 in the site's rankings.

The site, re-launched in 2015 with respected college baseball journalists Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers at the helm, has the Terps as the top ranked team among Big Ten schools. The top-five includes Vanderbilt, Florida, Virginia, UCLA and South Carolina. Maryland defeated the Gamecocks to advance to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional last season.

Maryland boasts a strong cast of returners heading into one of the most anticipated seasons in school history. Freshman All-Americans infielder Brandon Lowe and pitcher Mike Shawaryn return along with regular starters Jose Cuas, Kevin Martir and LaMonte Wade. Lowe batted .348 last season and tied Cuas for the team lead in RBIs (42).

Shawaryn set the program record in wins last year with 11 and an ERA of 3.12. Kevin Mooney, who notched a program record 13 saves last season, also returns for Maryland.

The Terps home slate includes series with No. 19 Cal State Fullerton and No. 23 Nebraska. Season ticket can be purchased HERE.
