
Jones II’s Record Day Powers Terps to 21-6 Win Over Georgetown

Paul Jones II hit two grand slams and collected a program-record 11 RBIs during his three-homer day against the Hoyas.
Jones II ignited the offense in the first inning with the Terps' eighth grand slam of the season and his first of the day. He finished with three homers — two of them coming in grand fashion — and 11 RBIs, the most by a Terp in a single game in program history. The previous program record of eight RBIs had been reached by five different Terrapins: Nick Lorusso, Matt Shaw, Will Watson, Tyler Bennett and Jason Mohap. Bud Coombs' first knock of his three-hit game came in the form of an RBI double during the Terps' four-run third inning. Coombs sent a homer of his own out of Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in the fourth inning to drive in three and extend the lead. His eighth homer of the season gave Maryland an 11-1 advantage before Georgetown recorded its first hit.PJ whacks it 100 mph for his second homer of the day!

Coombs again highlighted the Terps' five-run fifth inning with a two-RBI double. Through his last five games, Coombs has tallied eight hits, four homers, and 17 RBIs. Jones II's second grand slam of the night put the final touches on the decisive win. Over his last two games, Jones II has hit five homers, driven in 16 RBIs, and scored five runs, marking one of the most dominant stretches in Maryland history. Brayden Martin also had a historic day. He drew his 139th walk of his career, giving him the all-time program record in his junior season. The previous mark was held by Luke Shliger who recorded 138 walks in his Maryland career.Bud gets his third hit of the day to drive in two. He is up to six RBI one the day!

Seven different Terps toed the rubber in the midweek win. Brayden Ryan earned the win as one of three pitchers to toss scoreless outings on Tuesday.
