Bannister, Goodwin Win Titles at Shorty Hitchcock

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Tyler Goodwin (133) and freshman Alfred Bannister (141) captured titles at the Shorty Hitchcock Open Sunday.
Bannister, who has now won three open tournaments this season, moved easily through the 141-pound bracket before engaging in a close match in the finals. Goodwin ripped off four wins to take the title.
The freshman's road began with pins over Paul Kirchner of Rider and Jack Mutchnik of American. The Maryland natiev advanced the semifinals with a 8-3 win over Navy Prep's James Connell before taking a spot in the finals with a 16-10 win against Cortlandt Schuyler of Lehigh.
Bannister edged Penn's Jeffrey Canfora to win the championships.
After a first round bye, Goodwin got past Lehigh Jon Mele and Navy Prep's Cody Lambert to advance to the semifinals. The sophomore knocked off Ronnie Perry of Lock Haven before defeating Dalton Macri of Finger Lakes Prep to take the title.
