PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Chioma Onyekwere tossed a lifetime best of 18.67m in the weight throw to move herself into fourth on Maryland's all-time list and finish second at the Tiger Open in Jadwin Gymnasium Saturday.
Onyekwere also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.05. Freshman Claudia Ababio was right behind with a fourth place showing in the shot put and fifth place finish in the weight throw.
Emily VandeWater also had a strong day in Princeton, winning the 1000m (3:00.30) and crossing the line third in the mile (5:02.74). Senior Maeve McCoy set a personal best in the 1000m with a time of 3:03.58 that was good enough for fifth.
Charlotte Staver's personal best came in the 800m where the senior's 2:17.14 placed her second. Sophomore Sydney Almeida clocked a time of 10:16.74 to finish fourth in the 3000m.
In the men's competition, Dan Trettel continued his fine form, winning the 1000m run in a time of 2.29.73 and finishing second in the mile with a time of 4:17.15.
The Terps boasted to other high finishers in the mile with Tom Hogarty notching a third place finish (4:18.36) and Louis Corgliano crossing the line in fourth (4:21.34).
Maryland returns to action at the Armory College Invite in New York next weekend.
