Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – The 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (11-2, 2-0 B1G) surged past No. 16 Nebraska (10-3, 0-2) Sunday to win 75-47, at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The win was the Terps' 50th over an Associated Press ranked team in head coach Brenda Frese's 13 years.
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the Terrapins with 24 points, 18 in the first half, with nine rebounds. Redshirt senior Laurin Mincy added 22 points, including 20 in the second half to spur the Terps. Junior Malina Howard grabbed eight rebounds and sophomore Lexie Brown dished six assists with nine points.
"To come in here is awesome with their fans, who are just tremendous," Frese said. "This is a big time college environment with a team like this. It was really loud tonight. I am obviously really happy and proud of these two sitting up here. When we were here last was when Laurin tore her ACL, so be able to come in and be able to have the game like she did today was huge. I thought Shatori (Walker-Kimbrough) really helped us in the first half when we were trying to find our groove. I thought Nebraska came out really strong and aggressive. I thought the difference from the first half to the second half was our defense and our rebounding."
Walker-Kimbrough scored eight of Maryland's first 11 points and 18 of their 27 in the first half.
A long two-pointer by Walker-Kimbrough with 5:10 to play in the first spurred an 8-2 run that helped Maryland regain the lead at 23-21. A last-second bucket by the Huskers tied the game at 27 at the halftime.
Mincy went on a 7-0 run by herself to start the second half. The redshirt senior hit a three, made a layup on the run and sunk two free throws to give Maryland a 34-27 lead just 1:17 into the half.
The Terrapins kept pushing to make it a 17-5 run. Two free throws by Lexie Brown made it a 10-point lead at 42-32 with 14:26 to play.
A three by Mincy put the Terps up 20 at 64-33 with 5:41 to play.
Maryland outrebounded Nebraska, 45-31.
Maryland is ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll and No. 14 in the latest Associated Press poll.
