COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Four University of Maryland wrestlers were included in the 2015-16 Division I Individual Preseason Rankings, released by The Open Mat Monday.
Redshirt seniors Geoffrey Alexander (133) and Lou Mascola (157) along with sophomore Dawson Peck (285) and redshirt freshman Alfred Bannister appeared in the top-20 of their respective weight classes. All three have previously qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Alexander has a chance to become a four-time NCAA Qualifier after three trips already in his career. The Pittsburgh native won 14 times last season and has over 80 wins in his career.
Mascola burst onto the scene in the back half of the season, capped off by two wins at the NCAA Championships, including an upset over fifth-seeded Cody Pack. Peck qualified for the 2014 NCAA Championships as a competitor for Chattanooga before serving a redshirt season in College Park last season.
Bannister won 37 times in his debut campaign last season in open competition with 10 coming by fall. The Maryland native won four state titles as a prep.
Maryland kicks off its season with the Red & Black Wrestle-Offs on Oct. 25 at noon.
