No. 13 Terps Blank Villanova, 2-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Seniors Tsubasa Endoh and David Kabelik both notched goals Monday as the No. 13 Maryland men's soccer team blanked Villanova, 2-0, at Ludwig Field.

The Terps (5-3-3, 1-1-2 B1G) dominated the shot category for the second game in a row. After outshooting Northwestern by 20 in a loss on Friday night, the Terps came out swinging again on Monday, boasting a 27-7 shot advantage over the Wildcats (6-4).

Endoh gave Maryland the early cushion with his first goal of the season at 19:53. After a feed from the near sideline by Amar Sejdic, Endoh angled a shot across the goalmouth past Villanova keeper Will Steiner for the back-post tally.

Kabelik and Jorge Calix – who both earned starting nods in replacement of Eryk Williamson and Sebastian Elney as the duo compete with the U.S. U20s in Berlin, Germany – teamed up for the insurance score in the 57th minute. Calix crossed a beautiful ball to Kabelik and the senior from Budapest, Hungary finished near-post from short distance for his second goal of the year.

Cody Niedermeier made three saves en route to the team's sixth shutout of the year.

"I thought it was a great effort by our team today and a terrific response after the disappointment on Friday,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “I thought we put together a full 90 minutes.  I loved the way our players competed on every play throughout the night.  We came out on fire in the first few minutes and set the tempo and we didn't let off for 90 minutes.

“That was more of what Maryland soccer needs to be like. Of course putting the ball in the back of the net was better today and I think that is an area we want to keep improving on. But getting a shutout and a couple goals against a very good team with a high RPI is always a good thing."

Maryland travels to Penn State for a match with the Nittany Lions at 7 p.m.
