CHICAGO - Sophomore Alexandra Lucki was the first Terp across the line at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course. The course looped around the golf course three times to complete the full 6k.
The Terps placed 11th, a four-place improvement over last season's performance. Penn State captured the women's team title.
Lucki ran 21:33.4 over the 6k course to finish 56th. Junior Sydney Almeida followed just behind Lucki in 21:45.3 to finish 8th. Senior Emily VandeWater was Maryland's third-best performer in 22:03.0. That time slotted her in 78th.
In her first Big Ten Championships, freshman Kiernan Keller was the fourth Terp to finish with a time of 23:12 to place 106th while junior Alexa Squirini placed just behind Keller in 107th with a time of 23:17.
Karah O'Halloran, Charde' Barnes, Katie Nappi and Catherine Sheffo also competed for Maryland. Penn State captured the team title.
Maryland is back in action at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 13 in Princeton, N.J.
