COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted its third annual TerpsGiving Turkey Donation last Sunday, providing Thanksgiving meals to 200 families.
The Terps partnered with ShopRite to donate meals for preselected families. Student-athletes from various Maryland teams gathered at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Baltimore to assemble the 200 meals, which went to members of the surrounding communities and participants at the church.
“This is our third year working with Maryland student-athletes,” Steve Hidlner, a representative for ShopRite, said, “and there is nothing better than seeing them step out into the community and stand up to the fight against hunger with the willing help from ShopRite.”
The student-athletes put together the meals, which included a turkey, potatoes, corn, green beans, gravy, cranberry sauce and stuffing. While working, the athletes interacted with the receiving families.
“Being a student-athlete we have many different things on our plate, so having the ability to take the time to step back and realize how we are helping these families in this community is really special,” said senior Malina Howard of the women's basketball team. “We appreciate ShopRite for providing us with the meals for families to enjoy on Thanksgiving.”
