• Melo Trimble and Dez Wells each scored 18 points, and Maryland edged Indiana 68-66 Wednesday night to earn a split of the season series. Coming off a defeat at Iowa, Maryland improved to 5-0 following a loss.
• With its win against Indiana at XFINITY Center Wednesday night, the Terps have reached the 20-win mark for the 2014-15 campaign. It is the first time Maryland has racked up 20 wins before February 15 since the 2001-02 season, when the Terps captured the national championship.
• Maryland is 6-0 in games decided by six points or less. The Terps are also 16-1 when leading at halftime and 17-0 when leading with 5:00 to play.
• Dez Wells scored 23 points, Jon Graham scored 12 of his career-high 16 after halftime and then-No. 17 Maryland edged Penn State 64-58 on Feb. 4 at XFINITY Center. Graham was with the Nittany Lions for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons after serving a redshirt season in 2010-11. He played in a total of 57 games with 25 starts, and averaged 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
• The Terps have been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for 11 straight weeks, the longest streak since 2005-06 when they were ranked 12 consecutive weeks.
• Dez Wells has been heating up as of late. The senior has scored in double-figures five consecutive games and is averaging 16.4 points per game during that span.
• Penn State is 15-10 overall, with a 10-2 mark at home. The Nittany Lions fell on the road at Ohio State, 75-55, their last time out on Wednesday. PSU has dropped three of its last four contests with its lone win coming at home against Nebraska on Feb. 7.
• Maryland leads the all-time series, 10-2, including two straight victories and three of the last four.
Wells, Trimble Lead Terps Past Indiana Wednesday
• Melo Trimble and Dez Wells each scored 18 points, and No. 19 Maryland edged Indiana 68-66 Wednesday night to earn a split of the season series.
• The Terrapins (20-5, 8-4 Big Ten) trailed 61-59 before Wells tied it with a shot in the lane. After Collin Hartman missed a layup on the other end, Jake Layman scored inside with 1:02 remaining to put Maryland ahead for good.
• Two free throws by Trimble made it 65-61 with 30 seconds to go. After Indiana closed to 67-66, Wells sank one of two foul shots with 12.5 seconds left.
• Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell then missed a jumper for the Hoosiers, got his own
rebound and missed again as the buzzer sounded.
Scouting Penn State
• Penn State is 15-10 overall, with a 10-2 mark at home. The Nittany Lions fell on the road at Ohio State, 75-55, their last time out on Wednesday. PSU has dropped three of its last four contests with its lone win coming at home against Nebraska on Feb. 7.
• D.J. Newbill leads the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 20.7 points per game. Newbill scored 18 points on 6-for-19 shooting in Maryland's 64-58 win over Penn State on Feb. 4 at XFINITY Center. Geno Thorpe was the other Nittany Lion in double-figure scoring, posting 10 points. Nine players scored for Penn State.
