
Melville Captures Big Ten High Jump Title

GENEVA, Ohio. – Senior Amber Melville jumped 6'1.25 to win the University of Maryland's first-ever Big Ten individual title at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
Melville took the title over Nebraska's Marusa Cernjul in a jump off. Melville matched her season best in the event. And earned first team All-Big Ten honors. Senior Thea LaFond nabbed third in the high jump with a mark of 6'0”.
LaFond's day was not done with that event. The Maryland native took second in the triple jump and sixth in the 60m hurdles final. Her triple jump mark of 43'5.25 was a season best and she was named to the All-Big Ten second team.
Senior Myah Hicks had a nice performance in the 800m, placing fifth in a personal best 2:07.87. Micha Powell set a new personal best of 54.45 in the 400m to finish sixth.
Powell and Hicks came back in the 4x400m to team with Lisa Meneau and Shade Pratt. The combo ran 3:45.85.
Maryland returns to competition at the NCAA Championships, Mar. 12-14, in Fayetteville, Ark.
