
LaFond, Melville Earn All-American Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Maryland senior Thea LaFond finished fifth in the high jump to earn first-team All-American honors at the 2015 NCAA Track and Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
LaFond jumped 6 ½ on her first attempt, but was unable to clear the bar set to 6-1 1/2. Senior Amber Melville cleared the bar at 6 1/2 on her third attempt to finish ninth and earn second team All-American recognition.
Leontia Kallenou of Georgia won the competition.
Both athletes are now three-time indoor All-Americans. LaFond was previously a two-time All-American in the Pentathlon while Melville has earned the honor on three-straight occasions in the high jump.
LaFond returns to competition tomorrow in the triple jump, which is set to begin at 7 p.m.
