
Stanova Tabbed B1G Athlete of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After a 3-0 weekend in singles, Maryland sophomore Alexandra Stanova earned Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Stanova won singles contests at No. 1 against No. 61 Nebraska, No. 13 Michigan and Morgan State. Her 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 19 Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan represented the highest ranked opponent the Slovakia native has ever defeated.
On Friday, Stanova dropped Nebraska's Maggy Lehmicke, 6-2, 6-2, before defeating Morgan State's Chelsi Russell, 6-1, 6-0, on Monday.
At No. 1 doubles alongside Welma Luus, she defeated No. 47 Mary Hanna and Izabella Zgierska of Nebraska, 8-5. The duo also notched an 8-3 win against Russell and Danielle Thompson.
Stanova's award is the first-ever Big Ten honor in program history.
