KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Mark Turgeon, Melo Trimble and Dez Wells were honored as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Friday the NABC Division I All-District teams and UPS All-District coaches for 2014-15, selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
Turgeon was named District 7 Coach of the Year along with Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan. Trimble garnered first team honors and Wells was tabbed to the second team.
Turgeon – who was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in the Terps' inaugural season in the league – led the Terps to a 28-7 overall record. Maryland recorded a school-record 26 wins during the regular season and made an impressive 11-game improvement in the win column from a year ago.
Trimble led the Terps in scoring as only a freshman, averaging 16.2 points per game and ranking in the top five in the conference. His 207 made free throws rank third all-time in single-season Terrapin annals. Trimble was a first team All-Big Ten selection and a USBWA Freshman All-American.
Wells capped his Maryland career ranked 19th all-time in scoring with 1,398 points. The senior averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in his final campaign in College Park. Wells was a first team All-Big Ten honoree.
