PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The men's distance medley relay team of Dan Trettel, Alex Leto, Tom Hogarty and Jakub Zivec captured the college section title to lead the Maryland track and field team at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., this weekend.
The team ran a total time of 9:55.91 with Trettel finishing his 1200m leg in 3:03.52 and Leto completing the 400m in 47.82. Hogarty was strong in the 800m with a time of 1:56.68 before Zivec finished off the race in 4:07.88.
In the women's shuttle hurdle relay, the squad of Lisa Meneau, Noella Anyangwe, Taylor Tucker and Thea LaFond finished in a time of 56.43 to place third in the championship race. The mark sits at No. 2 on Maryland's all-time list.
Also on the women's side, Micha Powell, Taylor Tucker, Shade Pratt and Myah Hicks delivered a time of 3:57.68 in the sprint medley relay to place ninth. The women's distance medley relay placed second in the college section with a mark of 11:42.44. The team was comprised of Hicks (1200m- 3:33.19), Pratt (400m- 56.79), Charlotte Staver (800m- 2:16.24), and Alexandra Lucki (1600m- 4:56.23)
Maryland's success in the relays continued in the men's 4x200m relay. The foursome of Brandon Thompson, Clyde Gross, Trey Sherman and Lionel Wilson notched a mark of 1:27.12 in the prelims to qualify for the IC4A finals. In the final, the team improved to a 1:26.27 to take third.
Also on the men's side, Pat Cole continued his spectacular campaign in the hammer throw, improving his school record to 59.63m and finishing sixth in the event.
The women's high jump saw Amber Melville jump 5'11.50 to finish second while LaFond went over at 5'10” to place fifth.
Meneau and Alexandra Cimino placed well in the 400m hurdles. Meneau finished seventh in a time of 1:00.44. Cimino placed 10th in 1:01.29.
In the women's shot put, Chioma Onyekwere notched a 3rd place finish with a throw of 51'4.25”.
