Schmeiser, Bustillos, Pronobis Earn All-Big Ten Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill.—Lindsey SchmeiserShannon Bustillos and Erin Pronobis were tabbed for All-Big Ten honors the conference office announced Wednesday.

L. Schmeiser was named to the First Team All-Big Ten, while Bustillos and Pronobis were both named to the Second Team All-Big Ten. Additionally, Bustillos earned All-Defensive team honors and was bestowed the Sportsmanship Award for her positive sportsmanship and ethical behavior. 

L. Schmeiser is hitting .364 on the season with a .685 slugging percentage and .464 on-base percentage. She has 42 RBI and 20 doubles, a new single season Maryland record. In Big Ten play, the Dunkirk, Md. native leads the squad with a .425 batting average, 11th in the conference, and .822 slugging percentage. Hitting 14 doubles and five home runs, the junior sits at seventh nationally and first in the Big Ten in doubles. She currently sits tied for second on the all-time home run list in Maryland history with 27 and has collected a hit in 41 of 50 games this season. 

The most decorated batter in Maryland history, Bustillos has broken nearly every offensive record for the Terps this season. The senior shattered the all-time Maryland RBI record after a three-run home run in the regular season finale against Michigan State, putting her career total at 151. Additionally the Anaheim, Calif. native broke the all-time Maryland home run record with her 28th career home run in the first game against the Spartans.. Bustillos is hitting .300 on the season with 42 RBI. In conference play the senior is batting .410 with a team-leading .897 slugging percentage, good for fifth-best in the conference.

Pronobis leads the team offensively, hitting .370 with a .669 slugging percentage this season. The Waldorf, Md. native has driven in a team-leading 44 RBI and hit three home runs in a meeting with Indiana earlier this season. In conference play, Pronobis has a .361 batting average and a .764 slugging percentage. The senior has 28 RBI and 13 extra-base hits. Pronobis has started all 53 games for the Terrapins this season, batting cleanup and patrolling left field.

Sara Groenewegen of Minnesota was named Player of the Year and Megan Betsa of Michigan was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. Northwestern freshman Sabrina Rabin eared Freshman of the Year honors, while Carol Hutchins of Michigan was named Coach of the Year.

The Terrapins open postseason play as they face ninth-seeded Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday at 2 p.m.
