
Shawaryn, Lowe, Martir Earn All-American Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland baseball players Mike Shawaryn, Brandon Lowe and Kevin Martir received All-American accolades from various outlets Thursday.
Shawaryn received second team honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). D1Baseball.com and Baseball America. Lowe was also a D1Baseball.com second teamer while Martir found a spot on D1Baseball.com's third team.
Maryland's Friday night starter throughout the year, Shawaryn finished the season with a 13-2 record and a 1.71 ERA. Opposing batters were only able to muster a .202 average off the right-hander.
His 13 wins is a single season Maryland record, breaking the mark he set last season. Shawaryn's 138 strikeouts is also a single season school record. He led the Big Ten in both categories.
For his efforts, Shawaryn earned first team All-American honors from the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He was a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection and was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week four times.
Lowe started every game at second base and paced the Terrapin offense with 53 RBIs and 83 hits. Lowe batted .331 and notched a team-high slugging percentage of .542.
He swatted nine home runs and recorded team-high 18 doubles. Lowe also walked 38 times. The Suffolk, Va., native earned first team All-Big Ten honors and was drafted in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Martir led the Terps offensively with a team best .342 average while nabbing 17 doubles and seven home runs. A spectacular defender behind the plate, Martir led the Terps with a .441 on-base percentage and racked up 41 RBIs.
The Brooklyn native earned third team All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Los Angeles Regional All-Tournament team. Martir was selected by the Houston Astros in the 18th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
