
Brionna Jones, Team USA Travel to South Korea

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior center Brionna Jones of the Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team will head to South Korea Saturday with USA Basketball to compete in the World University Games July 4-13.
Jones, an All-Big Ten honoree, and Team USA have been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this week before departing this weekend. The team will practice in Seoul Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Guangju, the site of the World University Games.
This is the first USA Basketball selection for Jones. She is joined on the team by Jordin Canada (UCLA), Nina Davis (Baylor), Diamond DeShields (Tennessee), Katie Hempen (Arizona State), Chanise Jenkins (DePaul), Erica McCall (Stanford), Aerial Powers (Michigan State), Courtney Range (California), Mercedes Russell (Tennessee),Sydney Wiese (Oregon State) and Courtney Williams (South Florida).
Team USA opens Group B play against Italy on July 4 at 9 p.m. ET, before playing China on July 6 at 4:30 a.m. ET and the Czech Republic on July 7 at 7 a.m.
Playing in Group A will be Canada, Hungary, Mozambique and South Korea; Group C includes Japan, Mexico, Russia and Sweden; and Group D features Australia, Brazil, Taiwan and Uganda.
The quarterfinals will be played on July 9, with the semifinals are on July 11. The bronze medal game is on July 12 and the gold medal game is set for July 13. For the full event schedule and more information, click here.
Players eligible for the 2015 USA World University Games teams must be U.S. citizens who currently are enrolled as full-time college students with remaining eligibility for the 2015-16 school year.
USA Basketball women's teams have participated in 17 World University Games and collected a record nine golds, six silvers and one bronze medal. The USA has won gold medals in the past five WUGs in which it has competed (2001, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013). Former Terrapin Lynetta Kizer helped Team USA win gold in 2011.
All-Big Ten First Team guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and the 12-member Pan American Games Team will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 3. The Pan American Games will begin July 8 in Toronto.
Including Jones and Walker-Kimbrough, 10 Terrapins have played for their respective national teams under two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year Brenda Frese, eight on U.S. national squads.
