COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball team finished in the top-15 of four national polls released this week.
The Terrapins, who finished with a school record 42 wins, were the 14th-ranked squad in the USA Today Coaches poll, the NCBWA poll and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. D1Baseball.com tabbed the Terps as the 15th-ranked team in its final rankings.
Maryland progressed to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history (1970-71). The Terps knocked off top-seeded UCLA to win an NCAA Regional title for the second straight year.
In its first year in the Big Ten, Maryland made a splash, winning 14 conference games before advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game. The squad contained eight players selected in the 2015 MLB Draft, the most players taken in a single draft in school history.
Sophomore All-American Mike Shawaryn led the Terps, earning a school record 13 wins on the mounds. All-Americans Brandon Lowe and Kevin Martir paced the Terps at the plate while all-time school saves leader Kevin Mooney anchored the bullpen.
