COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland basketball program participated in the annual Zaching Against Cancer golf outing and banquet Friday, June 26 at the Turf Valley Country Club in Ellicott City, Md.
The event was hosted by the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization aiming to provide support for cancer patients. The foundation is named after former Terrapin men's basketball manager Zach Lederer, whose inspirational battle with brain cancer inspired many across the country. He passed away March 11, 2014.
Maryland men's basketball head coach Mark Turgeon spoke about Lederer's everlasting impact.
“It was great to be a part of this wonderful event for a very special person,” Turgeon said. “Zach touched us all and continues to do so. The legacy he has left behind is important to embrace and celebrate. Any chance we have an opportunity to get together and raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer is an important initiative.”
