COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In collaboration with the Maryland Dairy, head men's basketball coach Mark Turgeon officially launched an ice cream flavor named in his honor on Monday at an ice cream social held at the XFINITY Center.

The ice cream – named Turge Turtle Crunch – is comprised of a vanilla bean base, crushed salted almonds, vanilla wafers and a chocolate syrup swirl.

“It's really been a fun process and it was great to have everyone come out and try the ice cream today,” Turgeon said. “I worked at Baskins Robbins as a kid so I've always been a big ice cream fan.”

Over 200 fans submitted suggestions for the name across multiple social media outlets.

The ice cream will make its debut on Sept. 21 and the Maryland Dairy will offer a promotion for the Stamp's All-Niter on Friday, Sept. 25 for both Turge Turtle Crunch and Brenda's Peanut Butter Frese.  

Concession stands at XFINITY Center will also carry the ice cream flavor on game days.
