Almeida, VandeWater Pace Terps at Salty Dog

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Maryland women's cross country team competed at the Navy Salty Dog Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The squad placed third overall in team scoring. Sydney Almeida led the way for the Terps across the 6k course. Almeida continued to push her way into the lead pack finishing in seventh place overall in team scoring.
Emily VandeWater opened up her first race of the season looking strong. VandeWater placed 16th overall and was the second Terp to cross the line. Senior Katie Nappi kept a close pack with VandeWater, placing 19th in the race and third for the Maryland squad.
Alexa Squirini continued to stay steady as she covered ground in the 6k race. Squirini finished 23rd overall and fourth for the Terps. Rounding out the team scoring for the squad was freshman, Kiernan Keller. She finished in 25th place to ensure that the top fiive women all placed within the top third of the race pack.
Catherine Sheffo and Karah O'Halloran were closely grouped as they crossed the line in 37th and 39th place respectively. Jackie Clark finished in 45th place with another solid race under her belt. Gaby Go and Charde Barnes placed 50th and 52nd as they maneuvered through the race. Erin Causey rounded out the group with a 60th place finish.
The Terps will enter their next training phase as they prepare for the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on October 2nd.
