COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland baseball players Mike Shawaryn and Nick Browne were both named top prospects from their respective summer play areas by Perfect Game.
Shawaryn was included as one of the top players from the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, a collection of top underclassman from programs around the country. The junior pitched against international powerhouses Cuba and Chinese Taipei as the first Maryland student-athlete to play for Team USA since 1979.
Shawaryn will enter the 2016 season already among the best pitchers in Maryland history. Owner of the most career wins in school history (24), Shawaryn racked up a single season school record 13 victories in 2015 and struck out 138 batters, also a single season school mark. The Carneys Point, N.J., native finished with an ERA of 1.71 and held opponents to a .202 batting average in 116.0 IP.
Browne played in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League for the South Jersey Giants, batting .276 with seven doubles. He also scored 13 runs and notched five RBIs. He was named the 18th best prospect from the league.
