Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior Tierney Pfirman scored a season-high 16 points to lead the No. 8 Maryland women's basketball team past Michigan, 74-67, Thursday evening in the Crisler Center.
Juniors Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones tallied 15 and 13, respectively, as the Terrapins moved to 15-2, 4-1 Big Ten on the season. Head coach Brenda Frese is now 4-0 vs. Michigan in her career.
The Terps jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter thanks to four 3-pointers from Walker-Kimbrough and Kirsten Confroy. Maryland led 25-19 at the end of the quarter.
The Wolverines scored five straight to pull within four points in the second quarter, but free throws from Pfirman and Walker-Kimbrough gave the Terrapins a 42-35 halftime lead.
Michigan (10-6, 2-3) rallied in the third quarter, taking a 52-50 lead with 5:25 remaining in the third after a three-point play by Hallie Thome. Maryland scored four straight to finish the quarter with a 55-52 lead.
The Terps used an 8-0 run to push ahead, 69-57, in the fourth quarter. Jones scored a pair of layups as Maryland closed the game, 74-67.
The Terps will return home to host No. 24 Northwestern (12-4, 1-3) Sunday at noon at the XFINITY Center.
The Terrapins will be giving away the Tierney Pfirman bobblehead at the Northwestern game. For the giveaways, fans will receive a scratch-off ticket when they enter XFINITY Center and 500 lucky fans will win a bobblehead. The Terps will also welcome all kids 12 and under to shoot hoops on the floor after the game for Kids Court.
