Maryland Set to Host Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland track and field team will host its lone home event of the indoor season this Saturday, the Terrapin Invitational, at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md. 

  • Competition will begin at 9 a.m. Live stats can be found here. Updates can be found via the Maryland track and field Twitter page, @Maryland Track.

  • Maryland will host 14 teams. A full list can been seen below.

Leading off

  • Maryland will boast a strong squad at the Terrapin Invitational. In the throws, senior Chioma Onyekwere captured the title in the weight throw at the Great Dane Invitational and will look to defend her shot put title from last season's Terrapin Invitational.
  • Sophomore Claudia Ababio has been solid in the opening weeks of the season and enters the meet as the defending champion in the weight throw. Graduate student Jill Maloney will make her Maryland debut this weekend in the shot put.
  • Micha Powell has been outstanding in the first two meets of the season and will be among the favorites this Saturday. Powell has combined with Thaila Cooper, Taylor Tucker and Lisa Meneau to win two consecutive 4x400m titles in Maryland's opening two meets.
  • In the jumps, Johnna Dominick and Peyton Wade will give Maryland a formidable duo in the high jump while Kayla Richardson enters Saturday at the Terps' to long jumper.
  • Sophomore Breanna Coleman captured the triple jump title at the Penn State Relays and will anchor Maryland's efforts in that event this weekend.

Top 10 Plays

  • Maryland has already had multiple athletes crack the school's top-10 all-time lists so far this season. Junior Micha Powell highlights this trend with here record breaking 1:12.46 in the 500m at the Penn State Relays.
  • Catherine Voelpel notched a top performance in the same event. The junior ran 1:14.89 at the Great Dane Classic; the eighth-best performance in school history.
  • Powell also made her mark in the 200m with a time of 24.50 at the Great Dane Classic that ranks sixth in school history.
  • Sophomore Alexandra Lucki, propelled by a standout cross country season, ran 2:51.64 in the 1,000m at the Great Dane Classic. That represented the fifth-best time in Maryland history.
  • Junior Sydney Almeida, another cross country stalwart, clocked 17:40.98 in the 5,000m at the Great Dane Classic; the eighth-best mark in Maryland history.
