
#6/5 Maryland Opens Season Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The fifth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team will open its 2016-17 campaign Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup vs. UMass-Lowell at the XFINITY Center. Prior to Sunday's game, the Terrapins will receive their championship rings and unveil a banner for the 2016 Big Ten title.
Tickets are available through the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP or umterps.com. Parking is free and open in the lots surrounding the XFINITY Center.
Fans will have an opportunity to interact with members of the team after the game at the annual Meet the Team event.
The Terps-River Hawks game will be streamed live on the BTN2Go app, which is the official app of the Big Ten Network. It will be a BTN Plus production and will require an additional subscription. Fans can access all Big Ten content on BTN Plus for $119.95 per year or a $14.95 monthly subscription. A Maryland School Pass for BTN Plus, which includes all Terrapin contests, home and away, on BTN Plus for $79.95 per year or for a $9.95 monthly subscription.
Fans outside of the U.S. will be able to watch here, using their BTN Plus subscriptions.

The Terrapins are ranked sixth in the Associated Press preseason poll and No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll.
Maryland was picked to win the Big Ten title by both the league's head coaches and media panel, the conference announced in November. The Terrapins have won the last two Big Ten regular season and tournament titles since joining the conference in 2014.
Seniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Teams by the head coaches and the media panel as well. Both were unanimous selections to the 10-player team, voted by the coaches. They were both named to ESPNW's list of the Top 25 players in the country. Jones came in at No. 16 and Walker-Kimbrough was No. 4.
Maryland welcomes the No. 1 freshman class in the country this season in Kaila Charles, Stephanie Jones, Sarah Myers, Destiny Slocum, Jenna Staiti and Blair Watson. All six were McDonald's All-American nominees and Charles, Slocum and Watson were named McDonald's All-Americans.

After Sunday's matchup, Maryland will host Maryland-Eastern Shore Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. All fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears or stuffed animals for the annual Teddy Bear Toss to support College Park Youth & Family Services.
