WASHINGTON (AP) -- Melo Trimble scored 22 points, including two free throws with 7.6 seconds left, and Maryland made up a nine-point deficit in the closing minutes to beat Georgetown 76-75 Tuesday night at Verizon Center.
Georgetown led 65-56 with 3:52 remaining before the Terrapins used a game-ending 20-10 run to win this duel between neighboring rivals.
Maryland (2-0) limited the Hoyas (1-1) to 16 field goals but was outscored 37-17 at the foul line. The Terps won despite going 7 for 27 from beyond the arc and being whistled for 32 fouls.
It was 75-72 when Trimble scored on a drive to get Maryland within a point. A turnover by the Hoyas followed, and Trimble was fouled while receiving the long inbound pass.
After he made both foul shots, freshman Kevin Huerter blocked a driving shot by Jagan Mosely just before the final buzzer.
