
Terps Headed to Southeast Open

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's wrestling team (0-0) will grapple with opposition in a hostile singlet for the first time this season on Sunday, November 6 when the team enters wrestlers in the Southeast Open. The event, formerly known as the Hokie Open, is hosted at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va. and will feature some of the top wrestlers from throughout the region.

Setting the staGe
- The Terps have 29 wrestlers entered at the event, which features wrestlers from Virgina Tech, Army, Penn, NC State and Princeton among others.
- The Southeast Open will serve as a barometer for the Terps, to see how the team stacks up to some of the toughest competition on the east coast. Eight true freshman are registered to make their collegiate debuts.
- Brackets are expected to be released the day of the tournament. Consult the tournament home page on Sunday for updates.
- Maryland still has a few lineup questions to answer after wrestle-offs this past Sunday, and will have a coupe weeks of open tournaments to solidify its dual match starters.
Wreslte-off rewind
- The Black team won four straight matches to end the day to secure a 17-14 win over the Red team at wrestle-offs on Sunday afternoon.
- Sophomore David-Brian Whisler (Black) capped off the day with a thrilling 6-4 sudden victory win over redshirt sophomore Garrett Wesneski (Red) in the 197-pound bout. The Black team secured wins in the three matches prior, starting with a 2-1 decision for redshirt sophomore Patrick Gerish (Black) over redshirt freshman Garrett Griffith (Red) in the 165-pound match. Terps face cameras on media day
- The Maryland wrestling team welcomed members of the local media to its practice on October 27 for media day. Head coach Kerry McCoy gave his preseason press conference, while media members watched the team's open practice at the XFINITY Center. Click here to see what coach McCoy had to say.
