
Jones, SWK Picked to Wade Watch List

ATLANTA – Seniors Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones of the No. 5 Maryland women's basketball team (6-0) were selected to the 25-player Wade Watch List by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Thursday.
Walker-Kimbrough and Jones were both named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, and on Wednesday, the duo was named to the Naismith Women's Watch List. They were also ranked in ESPNW's top 25 players in the country, with Jones coming in at No. 16 and Walker-Kimbrough at No. 4.
Through six games this season, Jones and Walker-Kimbrough lead the Terrapins in scoring. Walker-Kimbrough is averaging 15.7 points per game and Jones is averaging 14.8 with 9.7 rebounds per contest.
Last season, Jones led the country with her field goal percentage of 66.5 percent and is shooting 67.9 percent so far this year. Last year, Walker-Kimbrough led the nation and set a Big Ten record with her three-point field goal percentage of 54.5 percent. She is shooting 50.0 percent from outside the arc this year.
The Wade Trophy — now in its 40th year — is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball. The “Wade Watch” list of candidates for The Wade Trophy is composed of 25 players selected by the WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Selection Committee. The committee will review the list in January to determine if additional players will be added based on their play during the first half of the 2016-17 season.

Maryland will face off against No. 7 Louisville (6-1) Thursday at 7 p.m. in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at the Cardinals' KFC Yum! Center.

The Terrapins held off Washington State, 79-69, Saturday in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. Jones led the way with 20 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. Kaila Charles added 19 points, 15 in the second half, Walker-Kimbrough scored 15 and Destiny Slocum had 11.
Jones was named South Point Shootout Most Outstanding Player and Walker-Kimbrough was named to the All-Tournament Team. Jones was also named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll Tuesday for the seventh time in her career.
The Terps are currently leading the country in scoring margin (+41.3) and field goal percentage (52.1%). They are second in the nation in scoring (95.0), rebounding margin (+20.0) and third in assists (22.2) and steals (15.0).
The Terrapins are ranked No. 5 in the latest Associated Press poll and in the USA Today Division I Coaches poll.
After Thursday's matchup, the Terps will return home to host UMBC (2-3) Sunday at 2 p.m. All youth can receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket. Kids 12 and under are invited to shoot on the court after the game. For tickets, click here.
