storylines

Justin Jackson scored 19 points and fellow freshman Kevin Huerter added a career-high 14 as Maryland never trailed in a 66-56 victory over Saint Peter's on Saturday. Maryland opened on a 14-0 run, and Saint Peter's didn't score its first points until 11:56 remained in the first half. The Peacocks never cut the margin to less than 10 the rest of the way.

• Maryland is the first team to reach the double-digit win mark this season in the Big Ten Conference (10 wins as of Dec. 11). The Terps are wrapping up their longest homestand of the year (five games). Maryland is 41-3 at XFINITY Center over the past three seasons, including a 7-1 mark this season.

• Maryland's freshman class continues to impress. The rookie trio of Anthony Cowan, Justin Jackson and Kevin Huerter are combining for 28.8 points, 16.1 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.

Mark Turgeon's first head coaching job in college basketball was at Jacksonville State for two seasons (1998-99 and 1999-00). Turgeon - who was 33 years old when he started at JSU - compiled a 25-29 record, including a 17-11 overall record and 12-6 finish in his second season (1999-00). It was the first winning record for the program since the 1994-95 campaign. Turgeon followed Bill Jones, the winningest basketball coach in Jacksonville State history. Turgeon's top assistant at JSU was Tad Boyle, who is currently the head coach at Colorado. His first child, Will, was born in Alabama while he was the head coach at Jacksonville State. During his time at JSU, Turgeon faced off against former Maryland Terrapins head coach Lefty Driesell - who was the then-head coach at Georgia State.

• The Terps have started the last three seasons on a tear, racking up a 10-1 record in each season through 11 games. Maryland was 14-1 to begin the 2014-15 campaign and 15-1 to kick off the 2015-16 season. The Terps are 66-17 over the last two-plus seasons.
