Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Brionna Jones scored 20 points and No. 6 Maryland overwhelmed Michigan in the second half to pull away for a 76-56 victory on Wednesday night.
"Obviously, it was a battle when we went to Michigan and played them," head coach Brenda Frese said. "We were not surprised that they came ready to play from the tip. We knew Kim [Barnes Arico]'s teams are always very well coached and very aggressive, and they showed that in the first half. There were a lot of plays in the first half that were disappointing to see, but I liked our response. We were able to regain some poise and some composure after halftime."
The Terrapins (24-3, 13-2 Big Ten) fell behind by nine points in the second quarter and 30-29 at halftime - only the third time this season Maryland trailed at the break.
The third quarter, however, was completely different. Jones scored six points in an 11-3 run that put the Terrapins up 40-36, and Maryland tallied the final nine points of the period for a 51-40 lead.
Maryland turned the game into a rout by outscoring Michigan 25-14 in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Kristen Confory scored 14 for the Terrapins, who completed a season sweep of the Wolverines (15-11, 7-8). Redshirt senior Brene Moseley finished with 13 points and five assists.'
Maryland outrebounded Michigan, 40-24. The Terps shot 49.2 percent from the field and held the Wolverines to 37 percent shooting in the second half.
Juniors Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough were named to the John R. Wooden Award Women's Late Season Top 20 List Wednesday.
Jones and Walker-Kimbrough are two of the nation's top 20 outstanding student-athletes who are the frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious individual honor at roughly two-thirds of the way through the 2015-16 season.
Next, the Terrapins will travel to Rutgers (16-10, 7-7) for a 3 p.m. matchup Sunday on ESPN2. The game can also be seen through WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
