Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla.- Madison Martin pitched eleven innings, striking out twelve batters, and only allowed one run as the Terrapins (4-8) split day one of the FAU Invitational, beating Boston 3-2 before faltering to Columbia 4-1.
The Edmond, Okla. native earned her first win of the season in game one against Boston, Martin then pitched five scoreless innings in relief against Columbia. The hurler struck out six batters in each game.
Kylie Datil starred at the plate, getting on base in five of her six at bats. The junior was 3-4 with two runs and a double while drawing two walks.
GAME ONE
Madison Martin hurled a gem on the mound, throwing six innings only allowing one run and striking out six to lead Maryland to a 3-2 victory over Boston.
Skylynne Ellazar and Sarah Calta came up clutch, with a pair of singles in the second and sixth innings to bring in the three Terrapin runs.
After Martin struck out three Terrier batters in the first two innings, Maryland jumped on top in the second inning. Jordan Aughinbaugh and Kylie Datil both drew four pitch walks to reverse the order to Skylynne Ellazar. Ellazar came through with a RBI single, scoring Datil and putting the Terrapins up 1-0.
Martin would continue her groove for the next four innings before Maryland gave the redshirt junior some cushion. In the sixth, Sarah Calta bolted a timely two RBI single into left to give the Terrapins a 3-0 lead.
Boston would make it interesting in the seventh, scoring two runs and putting the tying and go-ahead run on with no outs. Hannah Dewey worked out of the trouble; silencing the next three to preserve the 3-2 win.
GAME TWO
Emily Libero went 2-3 and turned two double plays in the field in her first career start and Madison Martin pitched five scoreless innings in relief, but Maryland couldn't string hits together and fell to Columbia 4-0.
Columbia would take a 4-0 lead in the first and never look back. Four hits including a three run home run and RBI double, assisted by a Terrapin error plated four Lion runs.
Madison Martin came in relief in the second inning and had another stellar outing, going five innings, holding the Lions scoreless, and striking out another six.
Maryland had their chances throughout the game, totaling eight hits, to chip away at the Columbia lead but couldn't put together a flow of hits in one inning. Kylie Datil reached base in all three at bats, going 2-2 with a walk. The Terrapins scored their only run in the seventh inning after Hannah Dewey bolted a RBI double to the left center field fence to score Destiney Henderson.
The Terps will be back in action tomorrow for a afternoon/night doubleheader. First, Maryland will have a rematch with Columbia at 1:30 p.m., before the nightcap against host Florida Atlantic at 8:15 p.m.
